About this role
North American Construction Group (NACG) is seeking Finish Excavator Operators to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area. This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region. NACG offers a combined rate of up to $53.83/hour as well as room for growth.
Work at the Fort Hills site on a 14 x 7 schedule with 12-hour days, rotating between 14 days on/7 off and 14 nights on/7 off. Camp accommodation is provided along with flights to and from Edmonton or Calgary. Bussing is available from Fort McMurray to site before and after rotations.
Operate excavators in mining conditions including soft ground (Muskeg) and ripping frost above shovels. Conduct daily safety checks, review hazard assessments, and ensure compliance with all policies. Report incidents or repairs immediately while using required PPE.
Join the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955 upon hire. Earn overtime after 8 hours daily or 44 hours weekly, plus night premiums. Access benefits, pension, transportation, and PPE after qualifying hours with opportunities for advancement.
Requirements
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience operating excavator
- Minimum one year experience in a mining atmosphere preferred
- Willing and able to work in soft ground conditions (Muskeg) and rip frost above shovels
- Proficient in English, both verbal and written
- Well-organized and favor safety above everything else
- CSO or BSO Certification
- Silica Awareness Training
- Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable drivers abstract (pulled within 30 days)
Responsibilities
- Operate various sizes and models of excavators required to complete assigned work
- Read stakes and place grade as needed
- Ensure compliance to all company, client and legislated safety policies, operating standards and procedures
- Use adequate and suitable safety equipment, including PPE
- Review safe work plans and hazard assessments prior to job commencement and follow all requirements
- Complete equipment and area walk-arounds, safety checks and field level risk assessments
- Report any necessary or anticipated repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors immediately
- Report all incidents, near misses or damage immediately
